Have you heard our adoption testimony?

Our story has been long and winding, like the mountains of Colombia, and we know it is far from over. For seven years we have desired to grow our family. For seven years, God has grown us. From an initial desire to adopt a baby simply to expand our family to the open arms of a teenage girl.

After the birth of our youngest son, now 7, we both knew immediately that we wanted more children. But a hasty decision while I was pregnant would prevent us from being able to have any more biological children. Blair began talking almost immediately about adoption as a way to expand our family. I was not so quick; believing that God could bring forth a miracle and I would become pregnant again.

Not long after, our closest friends told us they would be adopting from China. It was a lifelong dream of hers and they were so excited to bring their daughter home. We were able to be a part of their journey and watch every moment. It was amazing and it changed my heart! We were introduced to a rescue ministry designed to reach out to those on the streets by providing temporary shelter for children of families who simply need help. Because of this ministry, we’ve been able to love on children for a time, feel the ache of the hole left in our hearts when they leave; and rejoice that we had a chance to be a part of their lives. We’ve also seen how real human trafficking is and vowed to do what we can to help those in need.

The heartache of watching children come and go in our home proved to be too hard on all of us (for now). We decided to make the switch to International Adoption and chose India for many reasons. We waited a year and half to be matched with a toddler age girl. However, God had other plans. Though we do not know anyone around us who has adopted from India, there are suddenly huge numbers of families adopting teenage girls from Colombia in our church. Many of them have gone back and forth on short-term mission trips simply to love on those in the orphanages. Blair and I decided to go on one such trip. Immediately we both knew this was where we would be adopting from. There were so many girls; most of them ready for adoption and there we were ready as well. Paperwork done. Arms open. Waiting for whatever God had for us. So, we are adopting a teenage girl from Colombia. Out of birth order and definitely not the tiny baby or toddler we thought we’d be bringing home. But we are so excited because we know God has called us to her. Financially, it will cost more to adopt from Colombia and we will have to be gone much longer than we had planned but, in faith we are stepping out, trusting the finances will work out as they have already done up to this time. We thank you for reading our story and sharing in our journey of faith.
